- ➤ Louisiana residents received over 50 million scam calls last December, according to TrueCaller data. Experts with the Better Business Bureau said new AI technology helped scammers mimic real organizations & urged locals to verify suspicious messages before sharing personal information. KNOE
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Krewe de Riviere and Krewe of Janus parades are set for Feb. 7 and a Mardi Gras bead recycling program is available to residents. Local drop-offs in Monroe will help support a greener celebration. KNOE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cheryl Rogers, principal at Carver Elementary (with 18 years of service), was named the 2026 Morris Henry Carroll Educator Award recipient for overcoming challenges and inspiring academic excellence. This is her first year leading the school. KNOE
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ouachita Green will celebrate Arbor Day with tree-planting ceremonies as its director, Shelia Kay Downhour, previewed the plans on Good Morning ArkLaMiss and said more details on locations and times will come soon. KNOE
- ➤ After a dry end to 2025 — triggered by a storm on Jan. 9 — three burn bans remained in effect, with Union, Jackson, and Winn Parishes still restricting burns as of Jan. 13. KNOE
