  • Two new housing programs are set to launch soon in West Monroe to offer residents better housing options.  KNOE
  • Visitors at Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo in Monroe can meet Rah, a Nile monitor lizard known for his sharp teeth and agile climbing. Construction on the new exhibit — set to finish in spring — continues, and zoo programs and birthday parties offer reptile sightings in the meantime.  KNOE

  • The City of Monroe announced nationally renowned architect Kimberly Dowdell as the keynote speaker for its 47th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Salute today at 10:00 a.m. (W. L. 'Jack' Howard Theater at the Monroe Civic Center Complex).  KEDM
  • Hotel Monroe Culinary Director Chef Karen Bennett shared the hotel's gluten free sweet dough recipe on Good Morning ArkLaMiss yesterday, giving locals a glimpse of the venue's creative culinary approach.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ULM President Dr. Carrie Castille shared leadership lessons at a recent NELA Young Professionals event in Northeast Louisiana — urging young professionals to focus on smart decision-making and continuous learning. Her insights aim to keep local talent here and build stronger community networks.  KNOE
  • Applications for the Dr. Ford Scholarship are now open for students in Monroe; the program (created to honor a longtime educator) has awarded over $10,000 to nine students since its start. Review the guidelines before applying.  KNOE
  • The Ouachita Parish School Board agreed Tuesday to spend $1.9M on athletic improvements at two parish schools, enhancing sports facilities for students.  The Ouachita Citizen

  • Two new housing programs will launch in West Monroe to help buyers and homeowners find assistance; first-time buyers can receive up to $25,000 for down payments and current owners may get up to $20,000 for repairs—applications open Feb. 9 through March 6 on the city website.  KNOE
