COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Quota West Monroe appeared on Good Morning ArkLaMiss on Jan. 15 to discuss plans for its annual fundraiser designed to benefit local residents. The organization said more event details will be released soon + locals are encouraged to stay updated.  KNOE
  • Families can enjoy a Mardi party at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum on Jan. 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. in downtown Monroe. The event will feature games, king cake decorating, mask-making, a second line parade & float display, with admission at $10 per person.  KEDM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Queen Lynda and King Clif preview the Mardi Gras season and parade day plans in the Twin Cities (shared during a recent community event) to help residents get ready for upcoming celebrations.  KNOE
  • Local performers and Mayor Friday Ellis celebrated Dr. King's legacy at a community event today in Monroe. They emphasized unity & public service to inspire young people to take leadership roles in local projects.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Applications are now open for A-HEC of a Summer, a two-week healthcare career exploration program for 9th to 11th grade students in Madison and Tensas, which will allow participants to shadow local healthcare professionals and earn elective credit, community service hours and CPR certification; students must apply by March 1.  KNOE
  • ULM completed a comprehensive review of its academic programs on Jan. 15 to align offerings with workforce needs and student success, and will phase out five degree programs immediately while adding three new workforce-focused degrees beginning fall—current students will receive support through teach-out plans and advising.  KEDM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nutritionist Jen Avis joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to share trends for healthier, intentional eating in 2026. She advises replacing sugary drinks with kombucha + water with fresh ingredients and checking labels for bioengineered foods.  KNOE
