ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at Oak Manor Apartments at 11:30 p.m. Monday displaced one adult and four children near Carver Elementary School in Monroe — investigators are working to find the cause as Entergy restored power by 4 a.m. Tuesday.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Due to a winter storm, ULM remains closed through Friday, Jan. 30. The ULM Activity Center offers 24-hour shelter and Schulze Dining Hall is open today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.; officials urge caution on icy roads.  KEDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A break near Standard Reed Road on Monday reduced water service on the Greater Ouachita Water System for Kiroli and D'Arbonne Woods residents. Water officials say repairs are underway and full service should return soon.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Kennedy said North Louisiana is tough as a three-dollar steak after a brutal winter storm left thousands without power in Ouachita Parish. Governor Landry warned residents to bundle up tonight as bitterly cold temperatures with single-digit wind chills Tuesday morning are expected.  KNOE
  • Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis said (expressing his gratitude) that during dangerous cold and power outages, neighbors are coming together to help and keep everyone safe. The community is uniting as extreme winter weather challenges residents today.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fresenius Medical Care is adjusting dialysis center schedules in Monroe as power outages persist from a winter storm. Patients needing open care should call the emergency line (1 800 626 1297) as power crews continue restoration efforts.  KNOE
