COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, hundreds of residents lined up outside Monroe Civic Center to collect free food distributed by the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana (timely aid reflecting community support).  KNOE
  • Connie Antley, a 38-year resident of Pine Hill Trailer Park, endured 13 days without power and severe water damage after an ice storm, yet she said she will stay at her mobile home (since relocation costs on SSI are prohibitive) as community volunteers help with recovery efforts.  KNOE
  • KNOE is partnering with United Way to raise funds for families affected by the severe winter storm in northeast Louisiana. A telethon is set for Thursday, Feb. 12, with live updates from Good Morning ArkLaMiss.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • KEDM is hosting a Mardi Gras takeover this Saturday to celebrate Louisiana's rich culture in Monroe + locals are invited to enjoy festivities including live music and parades during the spirited event.  KNOE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • City of Monroe advanced to phase II of the Southern Cities Economic Initiative by receiving a $55,000 implementation grant to launch financial education and homeowner assistance programs; its Planning and Urban Development Department began planning the initiative (running from Jan. 2026 to Dec. 2027).  KEDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe Police outlined parade safety tips and rules today for this weekend’s Krewe of Riviere and Krewe of Janus parades (including no drones, road closures, and restrictions on open alcohol). Residents are urged to follow posted signs and allow extra time for traffic delays.  KNOE
  • Entergy Louisiana restored power to customers affected by last weekend’s winter storm across North Louisiana — crews worked in icy conditions while the utility thanked over 4,400 line workers and local partners for their efforts.  KNOE
  • Governor Jeff Landry announced that applications are now open for the Governor’s Fellows Program, which gives college and university students a chance to gain public policy experience and earn three hours of academic credit (through LSU’s Department of Public Administration). Applications are due March 31.  KNOE
  • Officials in our parish continue storm cleanup following the winter storm by urging residents to dispose of debris safely — parish leaders are securing FEMA assistance to offset cleanup costs.  KNOE
