COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Monroe will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II of the Desiard Street improvements on February 28th, focusing on enhancing infrastructure and pedestrian amenities.  KEDM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-wheeler hauling non-regulated oil overturned in a crash on I-20 East past LA 594, leading to a leak and a lane closure for cleanup, with no reported hazards from the spill.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • Former West Monroe High School coach, Cedric Goins Sr., was arrested for allegedly choking a student athlete.  The Ouachita Citizen
  • The Monroe Police Department responded to two separate shootings on February 26, arresting a juvenile suspect for one incident and seeking others responsible, with both victims expected to recover.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Legislative Auditor's office is conducting an investigation into the Monroe City Schools over potential misuse of student activity funds following an audit that uncovered 42 sub-funds with negative balances.  The Ouachita Citizen

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana updates its hunting season rules and regulations for 2025-26, including specific dates and restrictions for game and migratory birds, with public comments accepted through March 6, 2025.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Monroe City Council has approved seeking bids for a $333,500 project to replace a water line on Sunset Drive north of Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High.  The Ouachita Citizen
