COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Following Winter Storm Fern, the Food Bank used a $50,000 grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation — along with community support — to provide food and water during power outages and damage. It distributed truckloads of food through seven mobile relief events and restocked local pantries. KNOE
- ➤ To honor the 318 area code, Monroe hosted celebrations with free zoo admissions for the first guests, downtown installations, and community centers offering popcorn and photos. Local coffee shops held audio booth sessions on March 5 and 6, and a special video will be released on March 18. KNOE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Third Future Schools will take over Morehouse Elementary next school year (beginning a three-year partnership with the district and State Department of Education) to address the school’s long-standing low ratings. KNOE
- ➤ Chardavion Johnson explained how the new scholarship will help local students manage tuition and supply costs. The program promises to broaden educational access and boost academic success in the community. KNOE
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ The Better Business Bureau warned Monroe residents to watch for tax scam emails and unfamiliar websites (a reminder to verify official sources). Residents are urged to check all financial communications carefully to avoid falling victim to these schemes. KNOE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DISH may remove KNOE and KAQY from its lineup today if an agreement is not reached, so customers would lose access to local news and weather programming. Local cities received DOTD grant money for a Transportation Alternative Program to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety. KNOE
