COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce will host several local events, as Executive Director Kristopher Kelley discussed on Good Morning ArkLaMiss, and more details will be shared soon (check local updates for timing).  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Northminster Church invites residents to attend a free performance of John Rutter's Requiem (featuring the Northminster Choir and Chamber Orchestra led by Dr. Deborah Chandler with soloist Morgan Meyer Huth) on Sunday, March 15 at 4:00 p.m. at 2701 Lamy Lane.  KEDM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • City Council approved plans to transform the Ouachita Candy Company Building into hotel rooms, apartments, and retail space—featuring a Riverwalk and plaza—and is expected to generate millions in tax revenue.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Children’s Museum of Northeast Louisiana and the Center for Children and Families will host a free parenting workshop on Tuesday, Mar. 17 in Monroe, with Dr. Emily Jones leading sessions. Kids will enjoy St. Patrick’s Day-themed activities and attendees can enter a drawing to win a one-year museum pass.  KNOE
  • During Tuesday's school board meeting, the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber awarded 2026 Building Bridges Grants to 11 Ouachita Parish teachers for projects ranging from outdoor literacy to hands-on STEM learning, with awards up to $500 designed to boost classroom engagement.  KEDM
  • The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce & Adopt-A-School awarded $500 checks to eight local teachers for projects that boost student learning. The grants support new reading spaces, science experiments, and other classroom projects at elementary, middle, and high schools.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Monroe Main Street was awarded a Louisiana Project Grant to support the Bridgetown Mural Project that will bring free community workshops and artist panels to a key downtown area. Local artist Inique Harris will lead the work and officials said timelines will be shared soon.  KEDM
  • City officials broke ground on a $14 million stormwater pump station at 2203 Georgia Street yesterday to fix decades of flooding in the Georgia Street-Winnsboro Road area. Construction will take 15 to 18 months (city engineers say) to complete the long-awaited fix.  KNOE
