COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Junior League of Monroe is hosting its 27th annual Spring Market (March 15) at the Monroe Civic Center Arena from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 100 vendors are selling clothes, jewelry, plants and food (tickets cost $15) with proceeds funding local programs for women and children.  KNOE
  • Monroe officials urge residents to prepare for severe weather by finding a windowless shelter and assembling essential emergency supplies — including food, water and key documents. The American Red Cross and Homeland Security advise staying updated, unplugging electronics and avoiding downed power lines during the storm.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ouachita Parish voters will choose on March 29 if they want to renew a recreation millage—this plan lowers the tax rate from 7.5 mills to 7.43 mills—to fund centers in Monroe, Sterlington and Swartz. Early voting starts today and runs until March 22, except on March 16 when offices are closed.  KNOE
  • Ouachita Parish residents will soon cast their votes on renewing a recreation millage that funds community centers and programs — the measure is expected to sustain local recreational support.  KNOE
  • Officials in Ouachita Parish are updating the 2025 transportation plan to improve road safety and add options for transit, biking and highway lanes — they plan public meetings this summer to get local feedback.  KNOE

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Peepers—a kitten aged eight weeks—will soon be available for adoption at River Cities Humane Society for Cats, said Amber Meeves. Families must fill out a pre-adoption form and schedule a meet and greet to know more.  KNOE
