COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Center for Children and Families + the Northeast Louisiana Children's Museum are hosting the free Connected Parent workshop for local caregivers. Parents will learn expert-led methods to build trust and strengthen family bonds during the session.  KNOE
  • Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries announced new restrictions banning deer bait and feed starting April 1 in parts of Ouachita Parish after Chronic Wasting Disease was detected. The 2026 Northeast Louisiana Homeshow is underway at the Monroe Civic Center, where over 100 vendors offer displays and deals.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 1,000 students gathered for the 2026 Career Expo Fair at the Monroe Civic Center, where more than 80 companies and universities offered insights into local job and education opportunities + the event was organized by the Ouachita Workforce Youth Program.  KNOE
  • ULM is hosting its 10th annual Women’s Symposium today at Bayou Pointe—bringing local community members together for interactive sessions and discussions.  KNOE
  • The Center for Children & Families is hosting a free Connected Parent workshop at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum to help caregivers understand their child’s behavior (5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.). Experts will guide parents on ways to build trust and strengthen relationships.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new bill proposes to limit the role of AI in making health insurance decisions by requiring healthcare providers to notify patients when AI is used. Lawmakers say the measure is aimed at increasing transparency in coverage criteria.  KNOE
  • The Louisiana DOTD will close the right lane on I-20 westbound at the Nutland Road overpass Friday, Mar. 20 at 9:00 p.m. until Sunday, Mar. 22 at 4:00 p.m. for cross drain pipe repairs (weather permitting); motorists should drive with extra caution near the work zone.  KEDM
  • West Monroe officials cleared thousands of yards of debris from Kiroli Park after the winter storm; the park is set to reopen in three to four months (with planned upgrades) and a free concert is scheduled Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Alley Park to support recovery.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • During National Poison Prevention Week, experts urge Monroe parents to keep common hazards like cleaning supplies and eyedrops locked away as curious children may access them; reports show over 67,000 ER visits in 2023 from accidental poisonings. Dr. Agarwal stresses childproof storage to help reduce these risks.  KNOE
