COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Monroe locals celebrated 318 Day by snapping photos at Antique Alley and Palace Park, enjoying red beans and rice ($3.18) at Restaurant Cotton, getting 31.8% off at the Masur Museum, and free entry for the first 318 guests at Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo; the event honored local culture.  KNOE
  • Residents in Twin Cities are marking 318-day to reflect on local blessings (organizers say more details will follow).  KNOE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sterlington Business Alliance has appointed Ashley Dowling as its new president after a unanimous board vote. Dowling, who helped build the organization from its early years (in collaboration with Monroe Chamber of Commerce President Mike Downhour), will guide future growth for local businesses.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 1,000 high school and college students attended the 2026 Career Expo Fair in Monroe today — more than 80 companies and universities connected with them about future job opportunities.  KNOE
  • ULM hosted its 10th Annual Women’s Symposium this morning at Bayou Pointe Student Event Center to bring local female leaders together for discussions on challenges in fields such as the arts and STEM. Dr. Carrie L. Castille, the university’s first female chief executive, led the event.  KNOE
  • University of Louisiana Monroe students presented papers at the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society Regional Meeting on March 6 in Lafayette, where undergraduates Ireland Aaron and Antoine Iles and graduate Mateline Bratton discussed diverse historical topics. Faculty praised the quality of their presentations.  KEDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Monroe Public Works launched the BIG Haul program to offer bulk trash collection that helps residents keep neighborhoods clean. In West Monroe, officials said thousands of yards of debris have been cleared and 250 trees removed from Kiroli Park, which will reopen in three to four months.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jabari Levingston scored 35 points in the semifinals and 28 in the championship game as Lincoln Prep won the state title yesterday, marking his strong return to the gym. The Panthers' win highlighted his standout play — a promising sign for future games.  KNOE
  • ULM Warhawks beat New Orleans Privateers 17-12 at The Lou on Mar. 18 (last night) in a slugfest that energized local fans; the team now prepares for upcoming contests.  KNOE
