CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Delarrious Jones, a suspect in the Monroe double homicide at Parkview Apartments on Sept. 1, 2020, was arrested in New Mexico on March 25—almost 5 years after the shooting—on two counts of second-degree murder during a multi-agency operation. KNOE
- ➤ Monroe police arrested Christopher Winfield on March 24 on charges of rioting, illegal carrying of weapons, illegal use of dangerous weapons and attempted second-degree murder in connection with the Pecanland Mall fight and Hibbett Sports shooting—this case remains under investigation. KNOE
- ➤ On March 24 at 9:45 a.m., deputies responded to a hit-and-run on the 700 block of Smith Street when David Esquivel (29) intentionally struck his roommate riding a bicycle with his 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe after an argument, and he now faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder while the injured victim receives critical care and the investigation continues. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Northeast Louisiana Music Trail will unveil its 22nd historical marker at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on April 3 at 5:30 p.m. The marker, funded by a ULM Opportunity Fund grant, will be placed at the corner of Northeast Drive and Bon Aire Drive to honor the coliseum’s rich musical legacy and invite the public to attend. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ VCOM Louisiana made history by getting a 100% match rate for two years in a row. The college said the record reflects its strong program in helping students secure residencies. KNOE
- ➤ Louisiana Delta Community College is holding its Week of Service as students volunteer on campus—like setting up donation bins for hygiene products—and at local sites such as Rolling Hills Ministries, the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank and First West Baptist Church. Salter, the engagement manager, said the projects build leadership and community care among students. KNOE

- ➤ The MAD Dash 5K, short for Making a Difference, will raise funds for cancer patients and survivors in northeast Louisiana—organizers describe the race as a community effort to support those affected by cancer. KNOE
