COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ 4 Paws Rescue unveiled its new building today at its Monroe facility (designed with indoor and outdoor space) to expand animal care and host adoption events. The organization said the updated space will improve services and community outreach. KNOE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce will host the Future Entrepreneur Academy in July at The Commons Building in West Monroe to teach high school business skills, where students earn a $1,000 scholarship and join interactive workshops — including a Shark Tank–style pitch session. KEDM
- ➤ Baylee Norsworthy, a West Carroll nurse, credited her LDCC training for launching her flight nursing career, and the college is expanding its practical nursing program to two new locations with applications now open. KNOE
- ➤ ULM School of Visual and Performing Arts is set to present four Cinderella shows as a fundraiser (with $20 general admission) at Brown Auditorium starting today at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with a Sunday 2 p.m. matinee that gives students live performance experience. KNOE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of West Monroe has opened the application period for its Homeowner Rehabilitation and Homebuyer Assistance programs through the Make a Difference Grant housing programs; applications are accepted until Friday, April 17 and paper forms are available at City Hall, the Community Center, or West Ouachita Senior Center. - ➤ New census data for 2025 shows that the state gained 3,311 residents while Monroe tied with New Orleans-Metairie for the smallest percentage change at -0.3%, highlighting how slow growth could strain local services. The figures also reflect broader population challenges statewide. KNOE
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ St. Frederick senior Audrey Perry has risen to become one of Louisiana’s top high school golfers in just 19 months after switching from softball; she finished ninth at state last season and won five of six tournaments this year. KNOE
