COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local animal rescue sought a foster home for Poppy, a cat who interacts well with people and other cats, as they aimed to boost his social skills ahead of his adoption process.  KNOE
  • Love The Boot Week 2026 is a statewide cleanup and beautification effort (with over 1,000 events across 64 parishes) that runs April 18 to 26 to honor America’s 250th birthday. Volunteers are invited to register as event organizers or helpers.  KEDM
  • Monroe Chamber of Commerce accepts donations to support TSA officers as the government shutdown nears its seventh week. Gift cards (grocery, gas, or restaurant valued at $20 or less) and non-perishable food can be dropped off at 1811 Auburn Ave., Suite 1.  KNOE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Entergy & Meta have signed an agreement expected to save customers about $2 billion over 20 years and create thousands of jobs across Louisiana. The deal supports energy efficiency initiatives and programs that may lower costs and boost local infrastructure funding.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State Rep. Michael Echols introduced the Teacher Pay Modernization Act to raise teacher salaries over four years—aiming to close a roughly $12,000 gap with nearby states; the bill applies only to salaries for certified teachers and will move forward pending committee approval and budget savings measures.  KNOE
  • The Louisiana Department of Education announced finalists and semi-finalists for teacher, principal and early childhood awards today. Local educators, including new teacher nominees from Monroe, were honored while final winners will be revealed in May and later in July.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana DOTD announces that I‑20 near the Ouachita River bridge in Ouachita Parish will have nightly lane closures from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. starting Monday, April 6, with pavement marking work expected to continue through late 2026 — drivers should exercise caution.  KEDM

HEALTH NEWS

  • SOS Pets of Ouachita is offering a free spay/neuter program for local pet owners. Dr. Keri Cataldo (Neighborhood Vet) and Joan Hampton discussed the service on Good Morning ArkLaMiss, highlighting a valuable health opportunity for community pets.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • The National Wheelchair Basketball Championships continue this weekend at the West Monroe Sports and Events Center (teams started competing yesterday and will play through Sunday) as local athletes showcase their skills.  KNOE
  • The University of Louisiana Monroe announced on March 25 that Ryan Cross has been named the new head men's basketball coach. He returns to lead the team in Monroe after successful seasons at ULM and UAB.  KEDM
