- ➤ Leslie Bryan with CASA of NELA joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss on April 1 to ask for more volunteers for the organization—efforts that seek to boost support for its community work. KNOE
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 59-year-old Springhill woman died when she was struck by a 2009 GMC Sierra while walking in the northbound lane on LA 143 near Jaried Road on March 31, shortly after 9 p.m.—troopers are investigating the crash with toxicology samples pending analysis. KNOE
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Delta Utilities acquired CenterPoint Energy’s regulated natural gas companies in Louisiana and Mississippi on April 1—transferring customer accounts automatically. The company said customers would not face immediate service changes and it expects to finalize its Entergy acquisition for New Orleans and Baton Rouge operations this summer—ensuring continued service. - ➤ On March 31, Metro Narcotics executed a search warrant at an apartment complex in Sterlington where agents arrested Andrial S. Baker Sr.—they found about 300 pounds of marijuana, cash, and a money counter that led to his booking for two counts of possession with intent to distribute. MyArkLaMiss
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Monroe City Council passed its $72.4 million operating budget and Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan on April 1—plans that cover over 60 city-wide projects scheduled to boost economic growth, with the budget and plan taking effect on May 1. KNOE
- ➤ During the March 29 election, Louisiana voters turned down four constitutional changes that would have altered teacher pay, lawyer discipline, juvenile trials and judge elections—causing strong reactions from supporters and opponents. State Rep Michael Echols said he was disappointed by the result—while other voters said the proposals seemed rushed and confusing. KNOE
- ➤ On March 31, West Monroe officials improved Bryan Smith Park at 424 Lee Street by adding mulch to the playground equipment—new swings, benches, triple-shot hoops, and freshly painted stencils were included in the update. MyArkLaMiss
- ➤ In Monroe, the intersection at South 4th and Beauregard is closed today while Hemphill Construction installs a new sewer manhole—only local traffic is allowed and detours are set for each direction. Detours are available via Temple Dr. and Winnsboro Rd for southbound traffic, via Plum St for northbound traffic, and via South 2nd and South 5th St for westbound and eastbound traffic, with the closure expected to last 30 days or until the work is complete.
