- ➤ Dr. Sabryna Herring-Antwine from Monroe won the 2025 Remarkable Women Award for her work to bring mental health help to the community through her practice, Antwine Counseling, LLC (known for community service). Born in Tallulah (in northeast Louisiana), she earned her degrees in Louisiana and is licensed in both Louisiana and Texas while crediting her mother for showing her the way to help families stay together. - ➤ A mobile home fire in West Monroe claimed the life of a 43-year-old woman on April 1+other occupants escaped safely as officials continue to investigate the fire's cause. MyArkLaMiss

- ➤ Last week, the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors named former ULM President Nick Bruno acting president after Berry left the position. The Ouachita Citizen
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Monroe is holding affordable housing meetings today as part of its 2025 action plan for community development block grants, home investment partnership and competitive emergency solution grants. Residents interested in applying for funding—and those who are homeless or have mobility, hearing or visual difficulties, or are minorities—are urged to attend the workshop at 2 p.m. and the public hearing at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Public Safety Center. - ➤ The Monroe City Council approved an amended $72.3 million general fund budget for fiscal year 2025 to 2026 earlier this week— a decision expected to guide spending for the coming years. The Ouachita Citizen
- ➤ Residents in Monroe must know that in-person and mail registration closed on April 2 while online registration remains available until April 15—early voting runs from April 19 through 26 and polls open on May 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. KNOE
