CRIME NEWS

  • State Fire Marshals and the Monroe Fire Department are asking the public to help identify a suspect accused of setting St. Mary’s Number 2 Missionary Baptist Church on fire—officials say the investigation is ongoing.  KNOE
  • A West Monroe man, identified as Khalid Clemons, was arrested on April 3 after allegedly shooting a victim in the leg and stealing his iPhone 12 on March 13—he now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and armed robbery.  KNOE
  • On March 13, a West Monroe man allegedly shot a victim on Richwood Road Number Two during an iPhone robbery when the victim was struck in the face and leg and the suspect—23-year-old Khalid R. Clemons—fled in a white car before being arrested on April 3 and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Armed Robbery.  MyArkLaMiss
  • West Monroe police charged a man on Richwood Road who is accused of shooting a victim in the leg and stealing their phone.  KNOE
  • The Monroe Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office launched an investigation after a fire was intentionally set at St. Mary’s Number 2 Missionary Baptist Church at 100 Williams Street on Sunday, March 30 — surveillance footage shows a person starting the fire and authorities are asking for public help to identify the suspect.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • Addiction counselors in Monroe and nearby areas are using tools learned in rehab to help save lives from fentanyl—a drug that is 100 times as potent as morphine that has led to many overdose deaths. They plan to use medication-assisted treatment and Narcan training to fight the opioid crisis.  KNOE

  • Bayou Jamb Belles launched its official NFL FLAG league for girls in kindergarten through 12th grade at Brady Fields in West Monroe — registration is open through April 20 and an informational meeting will be held April 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Rec at Seventh Square — 1802 North Seventh Street in West Monroe.  KEDM
