COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Michaela Taylor from River Cities Humane Society for Cats said the shelter is holding off on adoptions while six kittens (including Angel and Tanner) finish maturing; Tanner will be ready for adoption soon.  KNOE
  • The NELA Black Maternal Health organization will host free virtual awareness events on maternal health from Apr. 11 to Apr. 17 online. Bowden returned from retirement to lead the Greenheads, who will start games and hold local tryouts in the first week of June in Monroe.  KNOE
  • The River Market is scheduled for today at 316 S Grand St in Monroe from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free. Residents can gather on Easter weekend for local shopping and treats.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Good Friday, worshippers gathered at Forsythe Park to take part in a Living Stations of the Cross event hosted by Knights of Columbus Council #1337 and the Monroe Kaycee Auxiliary (featuring reenactments and reflection).  KNOE
  • Downtown West Monroe has unveiled the 2026 Ouachita RiverFest lineup featuring food, music, vendors, a duck drop, and a kids zone. The event will run April 24-25 at Alley Park Stage with performances from local and regional acts.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In March, three UAM graduate students earned top awards at conferences in State College and Little Rock for research on forest resources, waterfowl management, and GIS mapping — a sign of the program’s strength as noted by CFANR Dean Michael Blazier.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • D'arbonne Woods girls Power Lifting was named little Cesars Team of the Week after winning their second championship in three years. The team showed its skill and strength in local sports (a proud achievement for the community).  KNOE
