COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ULM Alumni Association will host its 19th annual Wine over Water fundraiser on Thursday, April 16, to bring local alumni together. Organizers say participants will enjoy wine tasting and networking (more details will be announced soon).  KNOE
  • City of Monroe offers public ice skating sessions with each booking set for 45 minutes + a 15-minute break between sessions. Residents can reserve their session now to enjoy a fun and safe skating experience.  KNOE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jo Ann Deal from the Better Business Bureau of Monroe discussed buyer’s guide requirements for used car sales during her appearance on Good Morning ArkLaMiss (Monday, Apr. 6). Local buyers are advised to use these guidelines when purchasing used vehicles.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Louisiana LunaChicks will host Blooms & Booths Market and Crawfish Cook-Off on Saturday, Apr. 11 at Monroe Farmers Market to raise funds for their Independence Day Parade performance in Philadelphia and Washington; they will also perform at Ouachita Riverfest on Apr. 24 and 25 at Alley Park.  KNOE
  • Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe held an outdoor Easter service at its prayer park and garden on Apr. 6, uniting the community & celebrating renewal through faith.  KNOE
  • ULM Athletics announced that award-winning country musician Justin Moore will perform on May 1 at Fant-Ewing Colosseum to support ULM Student Athlete Success. The university offers multiple corporate sponsorship packages to fund the fundraiser.  KNOE
  • Masur Museum of Art is hosting its 17th Annual Off the Wall fundraiser, a premier art auction featuring over 100 works, local food, an expanded bar, and live music — supporting exhibitions and educational programs at the museum. The event runs Friday, April 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 1400 South Grand Street.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana Delta Community College received a $150,000 donation from the Living Well Foundation to support its new Bastrop campus. The school will hold a check presentation ceremony today at 1:30 p.m. in the Advanced Technology Center auditorium on the Monroe campus to secure matching state funds.  KNOE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Wildlife Federation launched the (Lights Out Louisiana) initiative to help migrating birds by asking residents to turn off unnecessary lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. during spring migration, a move aimed at reducing disorienting collisions for over 2 billion birds.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center will offer free screenings for breast, prostate, colorectal, and skin cancers on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mac’s Fresh Market, 1427 Winnsboro Road in Monroe (appointments are required).  KNOE
