  • Jim Taylor Auto Group donated $15,184 to the Tarver Braddock Foundation during an event at Jim Taylor Buick GMC in Monroe, honoring Tarver Braddock’s sacrifice and supporting local community efforts.  KNOE
  • At the Tarver Braddock Pickleball Tournament in Monroe, the foundation surprised Riverfield player Carter Huff with a truck gift to ease his challenging season as he plans for his future. The organization, founded by his parents after their son's death, has given over $430,000 in community support.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ouachita Herb Society will host its annual Spring Herb Faire soon as club president Angie Blades discussed plans on Good Morning ArkLaMiss.  KNOE
  • The Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Heritage Museum will present the Lightwire Theatre production of The Ugly Duckling at Jack Howard Theatre on Friday, Apr. 17 — featuring modern costumes, music, puppetry and dance.  KEDM
  • A new exhibit at the local maritime museum tells the story of the USS New Orleans—a warship that refused to sink—and its heroic role in battle. Visitors can explore its history and learn about its impact today.  KNOE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana Works data shows that nearly 2 million nonfarm jobs were filled in January with gains of 1,400 from December and 2,200 from last January—while unemployment edged up to 4.3%. Several metro areas, including Monroe, saw added growth in key sectors like private education and health services.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Ouachita FFA club students opened seasonal greenhouses, providing hands-on agricultural and business experience — the initiative has already seen strong sales from local buyers.  KNOE
  • Louisiana Christian University hosted Christian apologist Frank Turek Tuesday night as he challenged students and community members to consider four foundational questions about Christianity (truth, God, miracles, and the New Testament) and defended absolute truth with references to philosophy and historical evidence.  KNOE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado State University forecasts a slightly below-average Atlantic hurricane season for 2026 with 13 named storms, including six hurricanes, and warns residents in Louisiana not to relax their precautions. Experts note that developing El Niño (a climate pattern increasing wind shear) later this summer may still create conditions for storms.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Warhawk Way remains closed for crane work until completion; the road has been shut since Thursday, Apr. 9, at 8:00 a.m.—barricades and flagmen guide traffic so drivers should plan alternate routes.  KEDM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nutritionist Jen Avis discussed recent research on gut bacteria producing serotonin on Good Morning ArkLaMiss. She explained that Limosilactobacillus Mucosae + Ligilactobacillus Ruminis help produce over 90% of serotonin and may offer new options for IBS treatment.  KNOE
