  • The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Wild Wild West fundraiser at Alley Park with live music, barbecue, and western-themed fun while proceeds supported local youth mentoring programs. The event celebrated a long-standing community tradition in downtown West Monroe.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Monroe Symphony presents its 2026 season finale at the Church of the Redeemer in West Monroe, featuring music by Rossini, Liszt, Brahms, and Strauss. A fundraising silent auction and door ticket sales will add to the event + support the symphony.  KEDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission ratified a declaration of emergency on Thursday, April 9 in Vidalia to expand the chronic wasting disease control area to include Ouachita Parish and parts of six additional parishes after a white-tailed deer tested positive—this 180-day measure restricts baiting and deer carcass transport.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • OPMAD detected West Nile virus in an adult mosquito pool in Ouachita Parish — officials will begin ground spraying tonight if weather permits to reduce the risk of human infection.  KNOE
  • St. Francis Medical Group held a soil blessing and groundbreaking on Thursday, Apr. 9 for its new Internal Medicine Clinic - an event that marked its effort to expand local health services.  KNOE
