COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of West Monroe will host a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Sunken Gardens at Kiroli Park on Monday, April 14 at 10 a.m., and the public is invited to attend. The gardens, revamped with funds from AARP+the Kiroli Foundation and volunteer work+native Louisiana plants, now offer a quiet space for walking and special events.  KEDM

CRIME NEWS

  • The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office warned residents about scam calls where callers pose as law enforcement and say you missed jury duty while demanding payment using (Bitcoin or prepaid debit cards); residents are urged to hang up and call the office at (318) 329-1200 if unsure.  KEDM
  • A Monroe man, Maurice Mitchell, 42, was found guilty last night for illegally possessing a loaded .38 caliber revolver with five rounds after fleeing deputies at a mini storage facility in West Monroe — he now faces up to 10 years in prison with sentencing set for July 31.  MyArkLaMiss
  • On March 29, 2023, at about 7:53 p.m., Monroe police responded to a shooting at Parkview Apartments where a man was shot in his buttocks and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries—suspect Ronald R. Leonard was arrested on April 10 and charged with attempted second-degree murder and other offenses.  MyArkLaMiss

EDUCATION NEWS

  • VCOM-Louisiana announced on April 11th that its graduating class achieved a 100% match rate in the National Residency Matching Program for the second consecutive year. The class saw 67% of placements in primary care and will begin residency training in 30 states—Louisiana, Texas, and Florida.  KEDM

FINANCE NEWS

  • On April 11, officials with Intuit for Education joined (NBC 10 reporters Jadyn Maloney and Haylee Hines) in West Monroe to discuss the 2nd Annual Hour of Finance Challenge in honor of Financial Literacy Month.  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ochsner LSU Health finalized the purchase of a 12,180 square foot building at 3731 Pecanland Mall Dr. that will become the Monroe Cancer Center; the facility will open in 2026 to offer exam rooms, treatment areas, and infusion bays—boosting oncology services for local residents.  KEDM

  • West Ouachita Softball's Lady Chiefs were named Team of the Week – they are ranked 7th in the Non-Select Division 1 power ratings.  KNOE
