COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Monroe announced on April 15 that Downtown Monroe’s RiverMarket will reopen on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and hold another market on May 10 — featuring local art, handmade items, free swag, and walking tours while welcoming pets.  MyArkLaMiss

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ouachita Parish High senior Makenzie Williams received over $1 million in scholarship offers from 75 colleges and is ranked first in her class with a 27 ACT score—she plans to attend Dillard University in the fall. She was also recognized as one of the top 20 scholars at the Ouachita 2025 Scholars Banquet.  KNOE
  • Louisiana Delta Community College is launching a new program at its Winnsboro campus— the program lets students earn a GED alternative and begin electrician training.  KNOE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ouachita River is rising from heavy rains and could reach 45 feet by April 23—five feet above flood stage—according to the National Weather Service. The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is boosting pumping capacity and planning for possible closures to protect residents.  KNOE
  • Local leaders toured Bayou Galion Solar on April 15, where the plant now produces enough electricity for over 20,000 homes. Recurrent Energy also announced a donation to the Cotton Country Players Theater Group—supporting the historic Rose Theatre.  KNOE
