- ➤ The City of Monroe announced that Downtown Monroe’s river market will reopen this Saturday, April 19 from 9 AM to 1 PM — a community event featuring local talent and art. A second market will take place on May 10 with a pet-friendly atmosphere that invites residents to connect with local creators. KEDM
- ➤ The city of West Monroe unveiled the renovated Sunken Gardens at Kiroli Park on Monday, April 14 as part of the park’s 100th anniversary celebration — two other upgraded structures were also opened to mark the milestone. The Ouachita Citizen
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Monroe Fire Department responded to a fire at Bayou Portable Buildings at 8798 Millhaven Road+ the blaze was quickly extinguished with no reported injuries while investigators work to determine its cause. KNOE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A state judge will decide within a month whether Madison Parish Hospital stays under local leadership or moves to state oversight by a fiscal administrator. The two-day hearing on April 14 and 15 showed state officials arguing that oversight is needed because of past financial missteps while hospital leaders insist the facility is strong with over $9 million in cash. - ➤ Ochsner LSU Health bought a building in Monroe last week and will develop a cancer center—expanding cancer treatment and oncology services in northeastern Louisiana. The Ouachita Citizen
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Monroe Moccasin fans set a new season attendance record as over 126,000 fans filled the Monroe Civic Center in the team's first season back after 23 years. The record surpassed the Federal Prospect Hockey League's previous single-season mark (the highest in league history). KNOE
