  • West Monroe has announced street closures for Commerce, Trenton and Natchitoches streets for Ouachita RiverFest set from April 24 to April 27 in downtown West Monroe—Commerce Street closes on April 24 at 7 a.m. until April 27 at 5 p.m. Festival events include a public viewing of the World’s Largest Rubber Duck on April 24 at 11 a.m., live music, vendors and the Rubber Duck Drop on April 27 at 5 p.m.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Families celebrated Easter while Feed the Forgotten hosted its annual community event+ ensuring that no one was left out during the holiday, as local residents gathered across northeast Louisiana.  KNOE
  • Ouachita Strummers and Friends will perform a free music event in the community room at the Ouachita Public Library on April 29 at 1 p.m. Music fans in Monroe can enjoy Louisiana tunes — played on dulcimers and recorders— during the event.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • Monroe police arrested 20-year-old Octavious Odessa Straughter on April 21 for three counts of attempted second-degree murder after a Dec. 30, 2024 shooting on Ben Franklin Drive that injured three people, two critically, and set his $225,000 bond—officers identified him through video evidence and witness interviews.  KNOE
  • Monroe Police Department is searching for Estevi Bonhauser, who was reported missing on April 22nd, and anyone with information is asked to call 318-329-2600 (Monroe PD).  MyArkLaMiss
  • Monroe Police Department reported that on December 30th, 2024 at 7:49 p.m. a suspect allegedly shot three victims on Ben Franklin Drive—leaving two in critical condition and one in intensive care—and arrested 20-year-old Octavious O. Straughter on April 21 for three counts of attempted second-degree murder with a bond set at $225,000.  MyArkLaMiss
