COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Preparations are underway for the Red, White & Blue Air Show in Monroe as organizers finalize plans for a community celebration of patriotic displays.  KNOE
  • Monroe-Ouachita NAACP President Cliff Thomas (the local civil rights leader) will resign on May 1, and the organization will soon begin its search for a new president.  The Ouachita Citizen

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Holiday Inn Express and Home2Suites by Hilton in Monroe, plus a Residence Inn in West Monroe, are under construction — a response to packed weekends spurred by festivals and tournaments. Tourism leaders say more hotel rooms will boost visitor spending and local tax revenue.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ouachita Parish Schools Superintendent Todd Guice updated on district recovery from storm damage and upcoming improvements during a meeting with local leaders Wednesday morning in West Monroe. He said they will break ground on a new $20 million elementary school in Richwood and form an AI policy task force.  KNOE
  • University of Louisiana Monroe will host two commencement ceremonies on May 9 in Fant-Ewing Coliseum, with one at 9:30 a.m. for the Colleges of Arts, Education, Sciences and Business + Social Sciences and the other at 1:30 p.m. for the Colleges of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Winnsboro doctor was named an emerging leader scholar by the American Academy of Family Physicians on Apr. 29, recognized for his role as a resident in Ochsner LSU Health’s rural family medicine program in Monroe (a ULM and LSU Shreveport graduate).  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Area athletes were celebrated on Monday, Apr. 27 at the 2026 Bayou Jamb Awards Ceremony held at the West Monroe Convention Center for their achievements. The event highlighted top local sports talent.  KNOE
  • ULM made history by outscoring Louisiana Tech twice this season — scoring six hits and six runs in the first inning on Apr. 29, a standout performance in local college sports.  KNOE
