BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gray Media reached an agreement that restores KNOE and other Gray-owned stations to DISH so customers can now watch local news + weather + sports along with CBS programming, effective immediately. The deal ensures Monroe residents stay connected to reliable local broadcast content.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pilots from around the country and local performers will perform at the Red, White and Blue Airshow today at Monroe Regional Airport starting at 3:00 p.m. and tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Vendors, food trucks and plane tours are offered, and ticket sales benefit the Chennault Aviation + Military Museum.  KNOE
  • Gray Media and KNOE launched the Star-Spangled Sing-Off contest on Friday, May 1 as part of the We The People initiative celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Contestants send in a cappella rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner for a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Nashville.  KNOE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana drivers face rising fuel costs as AAA reports regular gas now averages $3.80 a gallon while premium exceeds $4. The agency warns prices may climb further this summer due to ongoing global supply challenges.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monroe City School Board members remain divided over renewing 2016 property tax measures as rising property values have increased the burden on local taxpayers. Early voting for the May 16 ballot begins today, and officials say the revenue will help fund campus security and repairs.  KNOE
  • On Sunday, April 26, AOII (Alpha Omicron Pi) alumnae and ULM officials gathered in Monroe to honor sorority member Carol Baker Robinson by naming an endowed scholarship that will support an undergraduate sister meeting the four core values. The award was funded by alumna Julie O’Brien and AOII sisters.  KEDM

  • Officials urged residents to prepare for hurricane season before it begins on June 1 by building emergency kits and planning evacuations (the National Hurricane Center recommends reviewing risks from storm surge, flooding, and wind).  KNOE
  • Louisiana lawmakers passed Senate Bill 433 on Apr. 29 to expand Medicaid coverage of GLP-1 drugs for obesity, and the measure now heads to the House for debate. Officials said it will include free gym memberships and dietitian support to boost long-term health.  KNOE
  • Officials in northeast Louisiana urge residents to prepare for hurricanes by building storm kits, reviewing evacuation routes, and signing up for local alerts. Their tips aim to keep the community safe as hurricane season nears.  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ronald McDonald House opened its first Family Room in Monroe on May 1, offering a 3,000-sqft facility with three private overnight suites, a kitchen, laundry, showers and a play area for parents of pediatric and NICU patients near hospital care.  KNOE
