🎭 Culture
The Louisiana Peach Festival and Lincoln Parish Museum announced a free exhibit called Peach Fest Through the Decades that honors 75 years of the festival—artifacts and photos will be on display June 2 to 30 on weekdays.
Locals can drop off memorabilia at the museum from May 1 to 16 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The Red, White, and Blue Airshow returned to Monroe on May 2 — the annual event continues its tradition in the city.

Monroe police will host a wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Center on Martin Luther King Drive — the event will unite the public and law enforcement to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
🏥 Health
St. Francis Medical Center opened its Evelyn and Jeff Johnson Obstetric Emergency Department in October 2023 to provide immediate care for pregnant women and new mothers up to six weeks postpartum—providers say the new unit fills a vital need in emergency care.
Local donor support helped bring this specialized service to the region.
The Louisiana Department of Health reported an increase in whooping cough cases with 164 recorded in the first four months of 2025 compared to 153 last year—40 people have been hospitalized since September 2024, with 70% being babies under 1 year, and two infants have died.
🏈 Sports
Bastrop High School hosted the first GUMBO track and field games on May 2 for athletes ages 5 and up with disabilities from Morehouse Parish, Monroe City, and Caldwell Parish—over 70 participants competed in 40 events with seven winners advancing to Nationals in Grand Rapides, Michigan in July.
