- ➤ A Monroe man was arrested last weekend—alleged to have battered his girlfriend—over a dispute involving tax money as reported by Ouachita Parish sheriff’s deputies. The Ouachita Citizen
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Zoe’ Bell, a Monroe student and valedictorian from Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy with a 4.3 GPA, earned about $3.4 million in scholarships and has chosen to attend New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She also served as a Senate Page Intern and held leadership roles with JAG Louisiana while receiving both the Jack Kent Cooke and Gates Scholarships. KNOE
- ➤ Voters in the East Ouachita Parish School District approved a $50 million bond proposal on May 3rd to fund the construction, acquisition, and improvement of local schools. Unofficial results recorded 883 votes in favor and 667 against (vote totals). KNOE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 1, the Ouachita Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness urged residents to report storm damage from recent storms and flooding—an appeal also echoed by the City of Monroe to help local, state and federal agencies assess impacts and plan repairs. KNOE
