CRIME NEWS

  • Seventeen-year-old Dejamerson Woods was arrested May 5 for a shooting at the 76 gas station on Jackson Street on February 26 at 5:25 p.m.—witnesses said he exchanged gunfire with his friend, who was injured in the left leg, and he now faces charges including attempted second-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile, illegal use of dangerous weapons, and aggravated criminal damage to property.  MyArkLaMiss

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Louisiana Monroe will offer a new 24-credit teacher certification program that lets uncertified teachers work while earning certificates in general science and middle school subjects. Applications remain open until May 9 and the program—which begins with summer classes followed by eight-week courses in fall and spring offering free PRAXIS support—will start on May 27 to help address the local teacher shortage.  KNOE
