- ➤ Participants will support veterans and active service members by taking part in the Run for the Red, White, and Blue 5K/1K race on May 24 at the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum located at 701 Kansas Lane. Registration is $25—prices will increase after May 10. KNOE
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Visitors will enjoy a Wizard of Oz-inspired film that captivated audiences in 2024 at Biedenharn Museum and Gardens — the screening on May 8 runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and costs $10, with guests encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. KNOE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries asked Monroe residents to register their boats and houseboats on May 6 due to concerns over abandoned watercraft causing issues — officers may issue tickets to unregistered boat owners. KNOE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Monroe Surgical Hospital opened a new sleep center in partnership with Sleep Specialists Management to treat and test sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, shift work disorder, and excessive sleepiness—Dr. David Ware is the center’s medical director and will manage sleep care—and overnight sleep studies are offered on weekends. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Jeremy Roenick, a Hall-of-Famer who played 21 years in the NHL — including stints with the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers — has joined the Monroe Moccasins as an investor and partner. He will help the team grow and deliver professional hockey to local fans. KNOE
