- ➤ The Krewe of Janus announced it will march on July 4 at 11 a.m. along a route starting at Natchitoches Street in West Monroe — a press conference on June 16 will share more details and registration is open to join. KNOE
- ➤ Local letter carriers are holding their 34th Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 9 in Monroe to benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. Residents are encouraged to place non-perishable food in donation bags near their mailbox for pickup on that day. KNOE
- ➤ The local non-profit is preparing for its 2nd Annual Salute to Veterans Golf Tournament Classic to honor veterans + more details on the event's date and location will be announced soon. KNOE

- ➤ Local boutiques help shoppers choose Mother's Day gifts by matching presents to interests while keeping money in the community as shoppers prepare for the holiday. KNOE
- ➤ Kohan Retail Investment Group acquired Pecanland Mall, a 964,123 sqft shopping center at 4700 Millhaven Road in Monroe (a long-time community hub). The company said it will work with tenants and local partners to plan future enhancements. KNOE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Meta and Global Commercial Restate Services are partnering to offer a free fiber technician training program in Indianapolis—participants will receive job offers with Meta that may include work at the Richland Parish data center and gain skills applicable to other careers. KNOE
- ➤ State education leaders approved new English language arts standards yesterday that require second graders to learn cursive writing and third graders to match letter sounds + compose multi-paragraph pieces; the changes aim to boost early reading and writing skills. KNOE
- ➤ Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) in Monroe has launched the RISE program for students aged 18 to 28 with intellectual disabilities. The non-degree program will develop academic, social, and independent living skills for the 2026-2027 school year, and applications are due by June 1. KNOE

- ➤ The City of Monroe will host the 2026 Housing Fair & Expo on Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Abe Pierce Convention Center. - ➤ Willis Knighton Health now offers a non-invasive liver cancer treatment called histotripsy at its Advanced Surgery Center in Shreveport. The procedure uses high-frequency ultrasound waves (no incisions, needles, or radiation) to destroy liver tumors and lower risks. KNOE

- ➤ The Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation will host a Zoom presentation on June 9 at 6 p.m. to explain using historic tax credits for rehabbing buildings (a free Q&A will follow). KNOE
