GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ FEMA and USDA announced on May 14 that five more parishes qualify for farm aid after January’s ice storm. Farmers in Catahoula, Lincoln, Madison, Union, and Webster parishes can apply for FSA emergency aid loans until November 16, 2026 (loans cover losses from Jan. 23-27). KNOE
- ➤ Audits by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor reveal that athletic departments at three Northeast Louisiana universities faced significant deficits (the audits covered July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025); ULM was short about $1.58 million, Grambling State over $5 million, and Louisiana Tech nearly $11.9 million. - ➤ The Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District detected West Nile virus in local adult mosquitoes in Monroe neighborhoods and said targeted adulticide sprays will begin tonight. Officials urge residents (per CDC guidelines) to remove standing water and use insect repellent. KNOE
