COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers partnering with Miracles to Milestones and the city are building an all-inclusive playground in Forsythe Park for children with physical, sensory and vision difficulties — the project has cost over $750,000, taken three years, and is set to be complete by the weekend's end.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ULM announced the President's and Dean's Lists for Spring 2026. Undergraduates taking at least 12 semester hours must earn a 3.9 or 3.5 GPA to qualify, and eligible students omitted in error should contact the Office of Marketing & Communications.  KEDM
  • University of Louisiana Monroe President Dr. Carrie L. Castille awarded degrees to 954 graduates during the Spring 2026 commencement ceremonies held on May 9. The degrees, which included honors and multiple achievements, were officially conferred on May 13 — marking a memorable academic milestone.  KEDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Experts at SWEPCO and Entergy advise Monroe residents to use programmable thermostats, clean air filters, seal drafts, and close blinds to lower electric bills as summer temperatures rise. Their tips help manage peak air conditioner use and support grid stability.  KNOE

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Three 5-week-old kittens arrived at the local shelter last week as part of a recent intake of about 30 kittens over two weeks. Those interested in adopting can contact the shelter + learn about availability.  KNOE
  • A Monroe shelter lists Suzy Q, a 9-year-old dog, for adoption after her family could no longer care for her. She is in perfect health (well trained and sweet) and ready to join a new home.  KNOE

SPORTS NEWS

  • ULM Athletic Director SJ Tuohy said the sports department exceeded its 2024-2025 budget by $1.5 million and plans to return to neutral by pursuing corporate sponsorships and cost-saving measures — current sports team budgets remain unchanged.  KNOE
  • Union Parish High School named Dimitri Carr as its new head football coach. Carr, who previously turned around Arcadia High (taking them from an 0-10 season to a state semifinal finish) and served as assistant head coach in 2024, brings ample experience to lead his team.  KNOE
