COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ An inclusive playground is under construction in Forsythe Park after more than $750,000 was raised over three years to serve children with physical, sensory, and vision disabilities, and organizers say it will be finished by the end of the weekend (final inspections are pending). KNOE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Voters rejected Monroe City Schools tax measures yesterday with a 52% to 48% vote; the failed propositions would have raised about $6.3 million for utilities & about $2.7 million for operations support, excluding staff salaries. KNOE
- ➤ On May 16, West Monroe High School promoted longtime assistant Jon Micheal Kidd to head baseball coach, and he will lead team practices and games at the school. KNOE
- ➤ Swayze Elementary closed after nearly 80 years and community members celebrated with a cookout at the school's campus Saturday — the school will merge with Shady Grove and Robinson as the district plans a new facility in 2028. KNOE
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Carr (defensive coordinator under Spatafora for 5 seasons over two spans) has been named Union's new head football coach, and he will begin preparing the football team for the upcoming season. KNOE
- ➤ West Monroe High School names Jon Michael Kidd its new head baseball coach after serving as a longtime assistant. He helped win state championships in 2022 and 2024 (fulfilling his lifelong dream). KNOE
