- ➤ Julia Morrison located the ServPro Greenqube near the ULM School of Pharmacy just off Research Way Road, officials with the Monroe Chamber of Commerce said. The discovery was made on May 21, 2026. KNOE
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Monroe Symphony Orchestra announced its 2026–27 season at a ribbon cutting at Tower Place with City Hall & Chamber representatives present. The season opener is set for Oct. 10 at Church of the Redeemer, followed by holiday, family outreach and spring concerts. KNOE
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA reported on May 20 that a regular gallon of gas cost $4.049 in Louisiana, up from $2.72 a year ago + local oil access has kept prices lower than the national average of $4.555. KNOE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The National EMS Academy will start a 12-week hybrid EMT course at its Monroe campus on July 12 with discounted tuition of $400. Registration is open for applicants who meet eligibility requirements and want to prepare for the National Registry exam and future employment with Acadian Ambulance. KNOE
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Education approved Louisiana’s Returning Education to the States Waiver on May 20, letting state officials redirect more than $18 million in federal funds to classrooms through 2029 — the second state to receive the waiver. Officials say it could ease red tape and boost student achievement. KEDM
- ➤ ULM and LSUA signed a new partnership Tuesday at ULM's library to let LSUA students pursue graduate degrees at ULM via five transfer scholarships that aim to keep Louisiana graduates in state for advanced education and quality careers. KNOE
- ➤ Kiroli principal Carolyn Norris concluded 56.7 years of service — she shared memories, laughter and a final field day race, noting that by 9:30 a.m. she had received 250 hugs. KNOE
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ouachita Green honored 42 student interns from eight local schools for their leadership in community service—students logged 1,036 combined volunteer hours in cleanup, beautification, recycling and environmental education through the Love Where You Live Intern Program. KNOE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Effective May 21, 2026, new deer baiting rules change control zones for chronic wasting disease management. State Sen. Glenn Womack said lawmakers worked with LDWF and stakeholders to set baiting bans within a 5-mile radius of positive deer samples + allow baiting beyond that area until surveillance goals are met. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Cancer Foundation will host the second annual Mad Dash 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run on Sept. 26 at Forsythe Park to support cancer patients. Survivors, families and supporters will join a breakfast, parade and MAD Dash Shoe Garden; the first 250 survivors will have fees waived. KNOE

- ➤ Ouachita Parish High School promoted Offensive Coordinator Leonard Caesar to head football coach as he takes on the role for the upcoming season. He replaces Benjy Lewis, who left to become an assistant principal. KNOE
