- ➤ Blue Star Mothers and city officials held a Memorial Day ceremony on Friday morning along Blue Star Memorial Highway to honor local fallen veterans. The service featured the National Anthem, a roll call of names with bell ringing, and wreath-laying for heroes of all six military branches. KNOE
- ➤ Monroe City Council will meet Tuesday, May 26 at City Hall to invite public input. The Housing Fair & Expo at the Abe Pierce Convention Center and family fun at Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo, featuring catch-and-release fishing, are set for Saturday, June 6. KNOE
- ➤ MyLove Daily Cats invites local families to meet Felix, a calm, neutered cat ready for adoption, and seeks fosters for its other cats while asking for donations to cover Hops' surgery for stomatitis (estimated cost between $830 and $1066). KNOE

- ➤ On May 21, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce honored winners of the 2026 Thomas H. Scott Awards of Excellence at the Monroe Civic Center (46 nominees were recognized for boosting local business and community growth). KEDM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ouachita Parish Public Library’s 78th annual Summer Reading Program offers a range of engaging books and prizes + fun activities for all ages. The program features popular titles like Potato Pants, The Bad Seed, and Flowers Are Pretty Weird to help keep the community reading through summer. KEDM
- ➤ ULM and LSUA signed an agreement on May 21 that gives LSUA graduates five preferred admission spots in Pharmacy and five transfer scholarships for select ULM programs, including Criminal Justice and Strategic Communications. University leaders said the partnership aims to boost workforce development and expand academic opportunities. KEDM
- ➤ The Chamber of Commerce will host the Future Entrepreneur Academy for grades 9-12 at The Commons (behind the Ouachita Parish School Board Offices on Slack Street) from July 10 and July 13-17 with sessions 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and workshops, expert talks and a Shark Tank style pitch competition. - ➤ Hunter, a three-month-old cat rescued from a work truck, is now available for adoption at River Cities Humane Society for Cats; he is vaccinated, microchipped, and friendly + visitors can meet him Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. KNOE

- ➤ Ouachita football introduced Leonard Caesar as its new head coach Friday morning — he replaced Benjy Lewis after serving as offensive coordinator and guiding the Lions to their first state championship since 1989. The announcement was made in Monroe. KNOE
