COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce is hosting Summer in the Park tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kiroli Park—where a foam party, music, bounce houses, food trucks and kids' activities are offered— with free admission until noon.  KEDM
  • The City of Monroe will host the 2025 Housing Fair and Expo on May 31 at the Monroe Civic Center Abe Pierce Convention Center from 9 AM to 1 PM. The free event offers housing workshops and a marketplace with experts and resources for homebuyers — with a chance to win a $1,000 down payment assistance voucher.  KEDM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown West Monroe hosts the free outdoor Ouachita Live concert series today from 7-9 p.m. at Alley Park at the corner of Trenton and Natchitoches Streets. Blues award winner Selwyn Birchwood and special guest D.K. Harrell will perform—ORBS members are invited to a pre-show Meet and Greet at Flying Heart Brewing and Pub at 6 p.m.  KEDM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ULM and Louisiana Tech received an A+ rating in elementary math teacher preparation by the National Council on Teacher Quality (only 8% of about 1,100 schools earned this honor) and officials said this rating confirms the strength of their teacher programs.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South College and Elm Street are closed to through traffic due to Atmos Energy repairing a gas line; the closure began on May 29 at 8:30 a.m. and remains in effect until today—weather permitting, with drivers advised to use detours on Powell Street, Darbonne Street or Louberta Street.  KEDM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Monroe organizers of the Theresa Marsala Memorial Golf Classic need 20 more teams to join the tournament honoring former president Marsala—set for June 13 at 8 a.m. at Frenchman’s Bend Country Club—which will raise funds for Cancer Foundation League patient services.  KNOE
  • The Theresa Marsala Memorial Golf Classic will raise funds to support the Cancer Foundation League’s patient services and programs — the event is planned to help cover the costs for cancer patients.  KNOE
