COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wellspring is asking for donations and will break ground on a new homeless shelter later this year in the community (program director Kristie Hall discussed the food drive on Good Morning ArkLaMiss).  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2026 Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Lazarre Park in West Monroe (a celebration of Celtic culture with Highland Games, music, food, and vendors).  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Gary Stringer will present fossils from a 34-million-year-old megatoothed shark on June 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Union Museum of History and Art in Farmerville. Attendees will view real fossil shark teeth and images of ancient sharks (Otodus auriculatus and Otodus megalodon) with free admission.  KEDM

FINANCE NEWS

  • B1 Bank and Progressive Bank are partnering to boost banking in north Louisiana and will change signs on Aug. 10 (the banks will update computer systems to offer more services) for local customers.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The legislature ended its session on Monday without a plan to cover a $198 million gap in teacher pay raises, leaving a funding proposal that may shift funds from the Minimum Foundation Program to be announced tomorrow morning by the governor (pending two-thirds approval from both chambers).  KNOE

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District announced routine tests detected the West Nile virus in mosquitos at 10 local sites and will spray Monday night (June 8) in areas including Monroe and Brownsville, urging residents to reduce standing water and use repellent.  KNOE
