- ➤ The Center for Children and Families in Monroe announced that Dr. Matthew Thornton will step down as CEO on June 30 after a seven-year tenure as the board launches a nationwide search for his replacement. The board appointed Stalanda Butcher—Chief Advocacy Officer—and Chris Ramsey—Chief Operating Officer—as co-interim CEOs, aiming to name the new leader by fall. KNOE

- ➤ The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies held a press conference on June 3 at 2 p.m.—about Operation Spring Clean that took place on May 21 in Northeast Louisiana. KNOE

CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council will honor local artists, businesses, educators, and volunteers at its 40th annual awards ceremony on June 12— a celebration that will recognize excellence in the arts— as the community comes together to acknowledge creative achievements. KNOE

- ➤ House Bill 317 passed the House and is headed to the Senate today — it aims to hold hospital owners liable for financial distress. KNOE
- ➤ Monroe City council members Rodney McFarland I and Juanita Woods are launching an initiative to install 175 air conditioning units for eligible senior citizens in Districts 3 and 4 to keep them cool this summer. The units will be installed today and June 5 (supported by JRF Outreach, Dr. Janet Floyd, Senator Katrina Andrews, Representative Adrian Fisher, and local Prince Hall Grand Lodge brothers). KNOE

- ➤ A recent study found that motorcyclists in Louisiana face high risks from distracted driving — nearly 50% of fatalities were linked to cell phone use, which led state lawmakers to pass a hands-free driving law.
