  • Officer Martin of West Monroe Police saved a three-week-old infant who was not breathing on March 11 at WoodSpring Suites by administering three back blows—restoring the infant's breathing—and his quick action has been hailed by the department.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Kiroli Park is turning 100 this year — the city of West Monroe will host a series of summer events to mark the milestone.  KNOE
  • The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Bass Tournament will take place at Lake D’Arbonne on Saturday, June 28 from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—locals can register at local tackle shops in Monroe and West Monroe or online at opso.net.  MyArkLaMiss

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, June 22, shortly after 9:00 p.m., troopers said that a 2015 GMC Sierra driven by Noah Short aged 27 crossed the centerline on LA Highway 151 just south of LA Highway 144 and struck a 2016 Nissan Sentra, killing West Monroe resident Rachel Rushing and injuring a passenger who was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.  MyArkLaMiss

CRIME NEWS

  • Richard Hicks, 68, from Pioneer, was given multiple life sentences on June 23 for hurting children through sex trafficking and making child pornography—law officials said he sent around 500 messages with people in the Philippines during the crimes.  KNOE

  • Gabrelle McLeod was crowned the 62nd Miss Louisiana at the Monroe Civic Center on June 21 — the pageant celebrated state talent in our community.  KNOE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beginning Tuesday, July 1 at 9 a.m., the northbound I-20 on-ramps from US 165 will be closed for about four to six hours as crews replace overhead guide signs — drivers must follow a detour that directs them to continue north on US 165 and take a U-turn near US 80.  MyArkLaMiss
