A Northeast Louisiana non-profit is hosting a free summer camp for girls that will teach life skills and help them identify their gifts—organizers say the program is designed to build confidence and empower future leaders.
🚨 Crime
On June 26th, authorities announced that a coordinated investigation by Metro Narcotics, Monroe Police Department, and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office led to the indictment and arrest of 17 individuals for racketeering connected to the Burg Jones Lane Gang—Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis said that if gangs, guns, or drugs appear in our community, they will be met with swift action.

On the final day of session, Louisiana state legislators from both chambers approved resolutions urging Congress to rethink Medicaid cuts—warning that lower federal support could harm state-funded services.
Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis announced that City facilities, courts and transit offices will close on Friday, July 4 for Independence Day — trash pickup will occur on Wednesday, July 2 and transit offices will resume on Saturday, July 5 while facilities and courts reopen on Monday, July 7. Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo and Chennault Golf Course will remain open to the public.

St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe became the first hospital in Northeast Louisiana to bring advanced robotic surgery technology as it prepares to use two da Vinci 5 surgical robots within the next two weeks—these robots help surgeons make smaller cuts and speed up recovery times. The new technology uses artificial intelligence to give surgeons better control during procedures.
