CRIME NEWS
- ➤ LDWF agents arrested 19 boaters statewide for alleged DWI on the water during the Operation Dry Water campaign from July 4 to July 6 — in Ouachita Parish a boat struck a fixed object causing a hull puncture and one person needed medical treatment, while in Jackson Parish a bay boat backed into a parked pontoon with no injuries reported. - ➤ On July 4, 2025, Ouachita Parish SCAT conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 165 near the Jackson Street interchange in Monroe and arrested Gary Thomas after seizing 2.02 pounds (916 grams) of methamphetamine. KEDM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ ULM has secured $9 million in state funding toward a $25.7 million renovation of Sugar Hall that will upgrade academic and clinical spaces for programs like speech-language pathology and dental hygiene — officials say the project will benefit both students and community members with a grand opening expected soon. KNOE
- ➤ Dr. Ray Morrison resumed his role as Dean at VCOM-Louisiana Medical School on July 8th after stepping down in 2021 for personal reasons. The founding dean, who led the school since 2020, said he will work with local partners—such as ULM—to advance osteopathic medical education. KEDM
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Discover Monroe-West Monroe and 2 Seam Sports will host the 15U Dixie Boys Baseball World Series at the Sterlington Sports Complex, with pool play starting tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.—bracket play begins on the second day and finals are set for July 12. The tournament offers each team at least three games in the invitational event. KEDM
