COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Daisy Mae — a 14-year-old dog — is available for adoption at the Humane Society Adoption Center in Monroe with a $100 fee that includes spaying/neutering and vaccines. The shelter is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is asking for donations of puppy pads and cleaning supplies and volunteers to help walk dogs.  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 25th marker for the Northeast Louisiana Music Trail will be unveiled on July 18th at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Ruston at the corner of E. Park St. and N. Vienna St. Blues artist D.K. Harell and Monty Russell and friends will perform at Sundown Tavern after the ceremony — parking is limited so early arrival is advised.  MyArkLaMiss

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Representative Patricia Moore secured $850,000 under House Bill 460 for a $10 million revitalization project in District 17 of Monroe. The project will begin with building five new homes near the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo—Moore plans to meet with local officials in the next two weeks to set next steps.  KNOE
  • The University of Louisiana Monroe College of Pharmacy received $2 million from a supplemental appropriations bill signed by Governor Jeff Landry on June 23—funds that will support its education and research programs.  KEDM
  • The Ouachita Parish Registrar of Voters moved to a new building at the corner of Bree and St. John in Monroe—voter registration is now handled there—and early voting remains available at the West Ouachita Senior Center.  KNOE
  • The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries released its 2025-26 hunting regulations pamphlet online on July 11, detailing rules and season dates for Wildlife Management Areas and federal lands. Printed copies will be available in August at LDWF offices and license vendors—ensuring hunters have the information they need.  MyArkLaMiss
