  • Residents were warned by the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office about a phone scam in which a caller claiming to be Sergeant Derek Freeman requested payment for outstanding warrants (residents are urged not to give out personal information if contacted).  KNOE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Louisiana-born artist Vitus Shell, an assistant professor in Monroe, will show his 'Free Lunch' exhibition (August 5 to October 29) at South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) in El Dorado. An artist reception is scheduled for August 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. for visitors to meet him.  MyArkLaMiss

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waylon McCormick from Ouachita Parish Schools appeared on NBC 10 News Today to discuss transportation safety tips & the benefits of working for the school board & explained that the department is taking steps to enhance transit safety.  MyArkLaMiss

  • Monroe Regional Airport is installing two new jet bridges that will allow larger aircraft to dock and improve accessibility—project work funded by the FAA and the Louisiana Department of Transportation will use a two-month installation period and is expected to finish within a year.  KNOE
  • Secretary Landry warned Louisiana business owners yesterday about fraudulent letters that threatened administrative dissolution if annual reports are not filed through Firstep, which are not official. She urged owners to check their filings only on the geauxBIZ portal (official communications come only from geauxBIZ or the Secretary's office).  MyArkLaMiss

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nutritionist Jen Avis from St. Francis Medical Center told Good Morning ArkLaMiss that olive and avocado oils lower bad cholesterol and boost good cholesterol because they are rich in monounsaturated fats—she also noted that proper storage and avoiding high temperatures help keep these oils safe to use.  KNOE
