COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Night at Restoration Park is set for Friday, August 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Restoration Park to raise funds for Keep West Monroe Beautiful, with limited $40 tickets that include food and drink tastings and live music by Jackson Culp — parking is available at the park and nearby Dodge Parking lot.  KNOE
  • Rising pet costs have forced families in Monroe to surrender pets as the Humane Society Adoption Center now houses 90 dogs in a space built for 70 to 75. Director Terri Matthews said staff are using creative ways to care for the animals and asked for donations—such as pet food and cleaning supplies—to help owners keep their pets.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • Louisiana State Police Troop F, the Monroe Field Office and Franklin and Richland Parish Sheriff’s Offices conducted a joint enforcement operation on July 30 that resulted in 11 criminal arrests, 27 traffic charges, 1 DWI arrest and seizures of approximately 14.3 grams of marijuana, 77.1 grams of synthetic marijuana and 15.7 grams of methamphetamine—an effort to reduce violent crime, drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.  KEDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ouachita Green will host its Annual Awards Luncheon on August 27 at the Monroe Civic Center to honor individuals, businesses, and organizations — each working to protect our local environment. Donna Curtis, a seasoned environmental leader with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, will deliver the keynote address at the event.  KEDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Lazarre Park boat ramp in West Monroe will reopen soon after improvements added 130 tons of rock+extended the drivable surface so boaters can launch in low water. Officials say construction will finish next week.  KNOE
  • Speaker Mike Johnson held several meetings in north Louisiana yesterday — he had breakfast with leaders in Ruston, joined a town hall with the Louisiana Farm Bureau, and held a news conference after a luncheon with Monroe's business owners — then ended his day in Bossier City discussing the Big Beautiful Bill.  KNOE
