ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 63-year-old West Monroe man died last week in a mobile home fire — state fire marshal deputies are investigating the incident.  The Ouachita Citizen

BUSINESS NEWS

  • International Business Machines (IBM) celebrated 10 years at the Monroe Client Innovation Center tower on U.S. Hwy 165 North, marking a decade of service in the area.  The Ouachita Citizen

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 28 at 4:49 a.m., Monroe police responded to a firearm discharge complaint on the 2000 Block of Lexington Ave after a homeowner reported hearing 6 to 8 shots fired, and no one was injured.  MyArkLaMiss
  • A suspect linked to the April 3 double homicide was arrested on July 31 and booked at Ouachita Parish Correctional Center on charges of Criminal Conspiracy and Second Degree Murder — investigators tied him to the crime with vehicle and phone records.  MyArkLaMiss

  • The Downtown Arts Alliance will host the Gallery Crawl on August 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in downtown Monroe and West Monroe—displaying local galleries and art in a free, walkable event where visitors can meet artists and explore creative works.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Chef Darrell Teats and Linda Hawkins joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to discuss the Louisiana Soul Food and Heritage Festival — set for Aug. 2 — without further details on the event's schedule.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ULM and LDCC signed an education partnership agreement on July 31 to let LDCC students transfer to ULM to complete a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Organizational Leadership. The deal eases transfers and includes the ULM Scholastic Transfer Award scholarship — it will be reviewed annually to support local student success.  MyArkLaMiss

  • The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced today that honorably discharged military veteran residents may purchase a recreational hunt/fish combo license for $20 — much lower than the regular $100 rate.
