  • The Monroe Chamber of Commerce honored the 2025 Top 20 Under 40 Young Professionals at UL Monroe’s Bayou Pointe ballroom on Thursday. The event recognized rising leaders from fields such as cosmetology, healthcare, law and media—highlighted by the chamber president's quote from Eleanor Roosevelt.  KNOE
  • The NOVA Workforce Institute of Northeast Louisiana will host its 9th annual community luncheon on August 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Monroe B.D. Robinson Conference Hall — ULM President Dr. Carrie Castille will speak about NOVA’s past accomplishments and the fundraiser, with table sponsorships starting at $325.  KEDM
  • Raven is a sweet dog available for adoption at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter (open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) where she walks well on a leash but still needs work on her sit command; the adoption fee covers spay/neuter, initial vaccines and microchipping.  KNOE
  • Chief Meteorologist Jarod Floyd said goodbye to the Ark-La-Miss after 19 years on August 1 — he began at NBC10 News Today in June 2006 and earned his degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.  MyArkLaMiss
  • Virtuouz Hair’s 8th annual Back to School Jubilee — an event discussed by owner Shanteka Downs on Good Morning ArkLaMiss — will take place on Aug. 3.  KNOE

  • The Monroe Chamber of Commerce released its Top 20 Under 40 list that spotlights 75 professionals from fields like cosmetology, healthcare, law, and media—including two from KNOE.  KNOE

CRIME NEWS

  • A Monroe man, Jeffery Lavell Marshall, was convicted on July 31 of second degree murder for shooting Frederick Grayson-Thompson on December 23, 2015 when the victim tried to break up a fight (he was hit at about 2:30 a.m.) and his sentencing will be set later.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ULM and LDCC signed an education partnership on July 31 that creates a clear pathway for LDCC students with an Associate of Applied Science degree to transfer to ULM and finish a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Organizational Leadership (students meeting academic requirements can receive the ULM Scholastic Transfer Award scholarship) with coordinated advising from both schools (chief academic officers will review the agreement annually).  KEDM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Acadian Ambulance Service’s Air Med unit took flight on Friday to fly patients from Concordia Parish to specialized care—bringing a pilot, a medic and a nurse on board—and it will soon expand its service area. The service began on July 21 with Trinity Medical Center and plans to grow to cover more parts of Louisiana and other states.  KNOE
