- ➤ Zion Community Outreach Ministries will host its 22nd annual back-to-school bash at the Willie Davis Jr. Rec Center in Farmerville on August 8 at 6 p.m. and August 9 at 9 a.m., where attendees will receive backpacks with K–12 supplies and food — and local school officials such as principals, teachers and bus drivers will speak. - ➤ A West Monroe man was arrested on August 5 for second-degree rape after he allegedly entered a new mother's home, asked to drink her breast milk, and raped her—he is now held at Ouachita Correctional Center without bond. KNOE

- ➤ On June 24, the ULM Wind Ensemble performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as one of four featured acts in Manhattan Concert Productions’ season finale — Songs of Peace, Hope, and Unity. The half-hour set, which included works by Gershwin, Thomas and McAllister, was supported by nearly $90,000 in donations raised through fundraisers and earned a standing ovation from the audience. - ➤ The West Monroe – West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce is launching an eight-month mentorship program for high school students in grades 9 through 12 that includes in-person meetings, virtual sessions and group coaching with business mentors.
