  • Tickets are on sale now for the Two Cars Two Winners raffle that supports women’s, children’s and critical care services at St. Francis Medical Center while funding the first phase of a NICU remodel. Buyers of $50 tickets before noon on August 22 get an extra chance for a $5,000 prize, and tickets will be available until midnight September 26 — with draws for vehicle prizes to follow.  KNOE
  • Twenty-four local restaurants in Ouachita Parish will participate in Monroe – West Monroe Restaurant Week 2025 from September 15 to 21 by offering fixed-price lunch and dinner menus ranging from $10 to $50.   • The Center for Children & Families will host the 'Dinkin’ For Hope' Pickleball Tournament on September 6—7 at Monroe Athletic Club to raise funds for nearly 5,000 children and families. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 11 at 3:20 p.m., a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 471 near Atlanta claimed the life of 40-year-old Dustin Demoss from Monroe when his Dodge crossed the centerline and hit a GMC—the driver and a passenger in the GMC sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital.  MyArkLaMiss

  • On August 11th, law enforcement agencies in Monroe worked the aftermath of a police chase when sheriff’s deputies pursued a suspected shooter from Orange Street to near North 18th Street—ending with a crash on Prune Street where West Monroe police had found two shooting victims and the suspect died.  KNOE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators in Ouachita Parish are monitoring preschoolers and kindergartners born during the COVID-19 pandemic for social and learning delays as they start school today. Researchers found that maternal stress during the pandemic may have affected school readiness—especially in lower-income families—and schools plan to provide support with smaller class sizes and teacher aides.  MyArkLaMiss
  • The Monroe City School Board won week five of Wendy’s Breakfast Club 2025 today and will be recognized as part of a weekly contest honoring educational achievements.  KNOE

  • Louisiana State Police and local pharmacists warn drivers that alcohol and some medications can impair driving and cause dangerous side effects. They advise checking warning labels and following doctor instructions to reduce risks on the road.  KNOE
